Security Deposits

Security Deposits are collected on all rental properties prior to move-in. The amount of deposit depends on the individual property. They are returned to lessees with interest as provided in Minnesota statutes when certain criteria are met at move-out.

Conditions for Security Deposit Return

A written notice of intent to vacate must be submitted within the allotted time stipulated in your lease in addition to your current mailing address.

The Lasson Management property that you vacate must have been left in the condition in was at move-in and per the stipulations of your lease and move-in documentation. Return of security deposits must take place within three weeks after termination of tenancy or the tenant must be furnished a written statement showing the specific reason for the withholding of the deposit or any portion thereof.

If all or a portion of your deposit is being forfeited, in accordance with Minnesota statutes and agreements that you signed, you will be sent a final ledger showing where the security deposit monies were applied.

Withholding Rent

No tenant may withhold payment of all or any portion of rent for the last payment period of a lease agreement on the grounds that the deposit should serve as payment for the rent. Withholding all or any portion of rent for the last payment period for this purpose is a direct violation of Minnesota law and will result in a monetary penalty plus interest.
